So you have decided, after much deliberate upon with iPhone, or Google phone, Android proponents, to go with the superior phone, Blackberry! On a side note since I am asked quite often, which is superior, let me just say this. The BlackBerry is a phone/communications device, the others are great devices that have phone use. Rim's push technology for a person on the go, just cannot be beat, and with up-dated software, and third party software like Opera Mini browser the Bb is catching up speedily in all other what I term entertainment areas.
So, that solved, what should you get?
Pearl
Now you enter the myriad world of size, style, camera/no camera, Gps, wi-fi, and I do not have sufficient space to discuss the accessories that go with each.
So let's keep it simple. My first suggestion would be to go to BlackBerry.com and take a look a the delectable offerings, to start to narrow the field. My second suggestion would be to stop by the kiosk in the local mall and deal with them, because frequently that is what makes the final decision. indeed you may say. Yuppa, because only then can you feel the keyboard, the spacing of the letters, and even the clackety clack of some models can be a turn on or turn off. So awaaay we go on our journey.
The current series are the Pearl 8100 series, the Curve, 8300 series, 8500 series, and 8900 series, the Bold 9000, on its way out I believe, and the Bold 2, the 9700.
Comparatively, the Pearl series does not have a full qwerty keyboard and is physically the smallest of the lot, the remainder are full qwerty, your first decision point. All but the 8800 series have a camera of varying pixel quality, your second decision point. The spacing of the keys differ as well, and the best measurement of what works for you, a la pudgy vs long fingers, is to try them. But once acquired all reports claim an ease of use irregardless of this.
Gps capability is ordinarily on the models that end in 10, 8110, 8310,, with wi-fi on the models that end in 20, 8120, 8320, etc. So Gps or Wi-fi, other decision point. You may be in a location, where a singular model for a provider has Gps, while the same model on a different aid provider has wi-fi, rare but occurs.
Voice recording, texting, are standard, video recording is on some models not all, other decision point.
I have found any way that consumers rank their choice of expedient based on wi-fi usage and color more than any other, once they have decided on the singular style they want. Of procedure there is the flip version of the Pearl, but somehow, general feedback suggests they are not very popular, but if flip phones are your thing, give them a gander.
Another deciding factor is trackball vs trackpad. I rather still like the trackball feel, but the trackpad is way cool too. The 8500 series and the 9700 boast the trackpad feature, again you test them and see what you prefer.
Now of course, processing speed plays a huge inequity for people like me. The Pearl is the slowest, then the Curve 8300 series, then the 8800 series. The 8900, 9000, and 9700 are in a class by themselves, with tests showing the 8900 running on wi-fi with Edge (2.5 G basically ) technology, faster than the 9000 running on 3G networks. The 9700 is of procedure at the top, with a price point to match. Personally, in day to day usage, I cannot see any speed inequity in the middle of the 8900 and the 9700. Styling-wise they are similar and the suggestion from manufactures pundits, is that the 9700 should have been introduced as the top of the Curve line, aaah well.
The Curve 8300 series allinclusive seems the best choice for most people entering the BlackBerry arena as it does it all rather respectably. The Pearl series has often been relegated to female only status, but trust me I had one and it is muy proficient.
So the final deciding factor after the oohs and aaahs have settled, is drum roll please, the price point, what can you afford!
Irregardless, from least expensive, to most expensive, and in any place in in the middle of there is a BlackBerry expedient that can accommodate your needs. Of procedure don't forget, you can always upgrade.
